We Are Driven by Our Global Classroom

ROC acts as the executing organization for the Global Classroom by providing teaching support to faculty & staff.

We facilitate regular classes, fundraise to cover building maintenance costs, arrange tutoring efforts for all students, and commit to complete transparency with our partners.

Education & Forced Displacement

Currently, the UN Agency for Refugees (UNHCR) states ~80 million individuals face forced displacement and only 3% of that total have access to tertiary education. Education in these displacement zones do not follow standardized curriculums and typically only offer parallel programs or other non-formal education certificates.

Dzaleka Diploma Program Formation

The Global Classroom Dzaleka Diploma Program was created to close the gap between forced displacement and equal education rights to standardized curriculum in these zones. By partnering with Central Michigan University (CMU), enrolled refugee students complete coursework and group projects by studying to gain full credits towards a certificate program. This program allows students with a rare opportunity to share ideas and cultural experiences with American counterparts to learn from each other and grow. As CMU is not accredited to provide Associates Degrees, ROC and CMU are currently seeking university partners to recognize the academic credits students earn at CMU with an Associates Degree from their institution.

Program Details

Our Program offers a 3 to 4 year online American university level program with 100% of tuition/fees waived. Enrolled students residing in Dzaleka Refugee Camp take 1 to 2 classes at a time per semester. We offer Fall/Spring semesters, plus 1 Summer session each year. Students receive same treatment as online American university students and attend in person 3 days a week for 3 hours each.

A full cohort of up to 20 students are enrolled each semester. Enrolled students continue to have full financial coverage to earn online credits in partnership with Central Michigan University.
